Field Study
Every sculpture begins with sketches from life — studying posture, plumage, the tiny details that give each species its character. No piece is started without this.
Six stages, unhurried — from the field notebook to the forge to your door.

Steel sheet is marked and roughed out, producing the blank from which the piece will emerge. The grain and gauge of the metal is chosen specifically for each form.
Heated at the forge and worked at the anvil — flat steel is persuaded into three-dimensional form, section by section. This is the longest and most demanding stage.
Feather or petal texture is added with hand punches and chisels. Each mark is deliberate. Eyes are fitted with hand-polished steel balls. Copper and brass inlay is introduced.
Colour comes from the metal itself — controlled oxidisation, vinegar bluing, heat treatment. Sealed with oil. The finish continues to evolve and deepen outdoors.
